We went to school today
Algebra
Never knew what was being calculated
A formula to snuff out our lives
No square roots just blood divided from boots

We went to school today
English
Never a chance to speak to my parents again
No texts to send, no letters to write
Natives sons lost to native guns
We turned in papers but left this life incomplete

We went to school today
Gym
Keep up, too late, shots reined out
No time to move, run, jump squat, dive, roll
Watching my soul separate from my body

We went to school today
Biology
Blood, concrete, never meant to mix
Plasma, separating, body reacting to trauma
Ears, screams, penetrating, shocked, dropped

We went to school today
Home
Bedroom empty, family broken, lives shattered
Siblings shaking, parents angry, sad, hurt
We forgot to make our beds, shrines, eerie

We went to school today
Bus, trained
Transported, ambulance, coroner
Funeral home, casket, hearse
This life gets worse, traveled to eternity

We will miss school Monday
Classmates crying, teachers questioning
Social workers empty, students callous
Lunch bland, hearts cold, friends silent
Screams blaring, stares penetrating

Focus, you have a test on Friday
Life goes on without us
