For You

Madame Vice President, I’m sorry, I want you to win, I do
Not that I don’t have issues with what your administration has done
I have concerns, but my concerns are not insurmountable
It’s not me you have to worry about; I donated days before Roland’s call

Your concern is the other brothers, Black men
Not all of them; last night, over 52,000 of us gathered digitally to support you
It’s the other ones. Mad that you were a prosecutor prosecuting criminals
Mad that you locked up Black men who were committing crimes

It’s a hard place because, for them, you’re not Black enough; you married someone white
You fell in love, not with a color, but with who for you was right
They say you’re not Black Black, a chameleon, when it is necessary
Maybe had you sat down with Ice Cube, opinions would vary

It’s scary; they prefer a convicted felon over you
It’s crazy; they prefer an insurrectionist over you

Someone how you’re not intelligent enough for them
Like your degrees and public service mean nothing
They have more respect for rappers who’ve destroyed the culture
Than for the work you’ve done and the weight on your shoulders

Maybe it’s not you, maybe it’s their mothers they despise
Like deep down, something happened that broke them, maybe conjecture
I spoke with one of my guys, “bro, she ain’t us; she got Asian Eyes”, lies
Strange, they’d rather revile you for your record of convictions
And then turn around and support a convicted Felon
I don’t think we know where we’re head

Hit the nail on the head, answer the tough questions
There’s more being done for migrants than for Blacks
Either way, everything will be fine
How do you feel about Black men who are not part of the Divine Nine?
Some of these thoughts are from inquiring minds
Come to the Chi; come on my show before time flies

I urge you to make a statement to Black men
If not, I fear a Black woman will have to climb the flagpole again
