I saw a Fall breeze sweep a leaf into the air
Watched it tossed to and fro aimlessly
Then it smiled, said thank you to the wind
It elevated, high above the earth, cherishing
Relishing moments of not being raked to pieces
Tossed in bags, burned with its family
Mowed over like plows into oblivion
Forgotten as if it never existed
The wind shed a tear
“Why are you crying?”
We are never thanked, often taken for granted
For all the people we have helped at no charge
Lifted off their feet, elevated their shows
Lead their ministries
Taught their children
Fed their families, put money in pockets
As if it was our benefit blessing them
And it was, we do it out of love for people
For humanity
JAH rewards us for our graciousness
We were that breeze which
Dried tears
Paid bills
Said prayers
Gave money
Performed for free
Snapped shots for no charge
Came to hospitals
Anointed with oil
Laced barz with no charge
Interceded till sweat poured like blood
Fasted till starvation became a lifestyle
Loyal during betrayal
Faithful through being cheated on
Trusted while having pain weaponized against us
Because our calling is so far beyond money
Surpasses earthly praise
We be breezes that live for you
The people
The forgotten
The hurt
The selfish
The broken
The blessed
The wicked
The righteous
We choose loving over judging
Despite the false prophets who profit saying there is no return for giving to the poor
Them be lies
Our lives are blessed
And those we’ve touched
Have no excuse for abusing gifts
And when our leaves fall
It’d be nice to hear a thank you
Or finally have you be the breeze
That can lift up those who lifted you
Yet, we waited for we are too familiar with humans
All take, no give, what webs we live
We thank JAH for making us the breeze
That lifts up you fallen leaves
Because our trees still stand
